What it is
Market data in Tessera means historical price candles (open, high, low, close over time) used to power reports, the simulator, and Trade Review charts. It is separate from the prices your broker showed when you executed - Tessera uses consistent chart data for analysis.
What you can do
- Rely on charts in Trade Review, reports, and simulator context labels
- Set a market data preference per instrument where the app offers a choice
- Understand why a report might fail when charts are incomplete for a period
How it works
Where candles come from
Tessera picks a data source based on asset type (not necessarily your execution broker):
| Asset type | Typical source |
|---|---|
| FX, metals | OANDA |
| Crypto | Binance |
| US stocks, indices, futures-style | Interactive Brokers |
Your execution broker and your chart data source can differ - that is normal. Analysis uses the chart source so conditions are comparable across users and sessions.
What uses market data
- Regime Analysis and Exit Placement reports - required
- Simulator entry filters and stop/target replay
- Trade Review execution charts
Performance Review reports do not use market charts.
Candle timeframe and history
When you run a contextualized report or chart, you choose a candle size (e.g. 1h, 15m). Tessera loads up to 60,000 candles per analysis cohort. Very long date ranges may require a coarser timeframe to fit within that limit.
Coverage and gaps
Before finishing a report that needs charts, Tessera checks that enough candles exist for your symbol and date range. If too many bars are missing, generation fails with a clear coverage message rather than silently guessing.
Gaps in history can mean unknown labels in the simulator or weaker condition tables.
User preference
For some instruments you can choose among available listings (e.g. spot vs futures on crypto) where the app exposes a preference. Consent may be required when switching sources.
Limitations
- One symbol per Regime Analysis or Exit Placement report.
- Incomplete history affects regime and volatility labels - see Simulator conditions and parameters.
- Chart data is historical candles, not a tick-perfect replay of your broker’s feed at execution time.
- Not all instruments have the same depth of history across all timeframes.
