What it is

The portfolio growth chart shows how your account story evolves over time. Depending on how your account is connected, that means either a full balance curve including deposits and withdrawals or cumulative trading PnL only. Knowing which you have prevents misreading “equity” when you only imported CSV trades.

What you can do

  • View growth over selectable timeframes on dashboard and statistics
  • Understand Liquid live sync vs every other account type
  • Interpret CSV and API accounts that show trading PnL only

How it works

Two curve types

Curve typeWho gets it
Full account balance + cash transfersLiquid Brokers with live API sync only
Cumulative trading PnL onlyEveryone else - OANDA, Binance, IBKR, cTrader, all CSV imports, Custom CSV

There is no middle tier: only Liquid live sync combines broker balance with transfer history in Tessera today.

Trading PnL only

For CSV and most API accounts, the chart plots sum of closed-trade PnL over time (by exit date). It does not:

  • Start from your true opening balance at the broker
  • Include deposits or withdrawals
  • Show unrealized PnL from open positions in the historical curve

The line answers: “How much have my closed trades made cumulatively?” - not “What is my broker net worth?”

Full balance (Liquid live sync)

With Liquid live sync, Tessera can anchor to broker balance/equity and incorporate cash transfers (deposits, withdrawals) so the curve tells a fuller funding story alongside trading results.

See Broker data and sync for live balance fields.

Why CSV cannot show deposits

A trade export CSV rarely contains a complete cash and transfer ledger Tessera can trust for every day. Tessera therefore pins CSV accounts to trading PnL only automatically.

Reading the chart with statistics

Statistics headline PnL for a window should align with the PnL-only curve philosophy on non-Liquid accounts. On Liquid, compare balance-oriented views only when you intend to include funding.

Limitations

  • PnL-only curves understate or overstate true wealth if you deposit or withdraw heavily.
  • Open trades are not realised in cumulative PnL until close.
  • Binance and other APIs may not provide transfer history even on API sync - still PnL-only for growth.
  • Display currency does not convert the stored series.
